On Saturday, April 30th, the Alabama International Film Festival will hold its 2011 screenings at The Studio Downtown on E. Walnut Street during TROYFEST. 

All screenings are free and open to the public. The schedule of movie screenings include the following independent films:

 

9 00 AM   *The Coloring (G) Short Feature – Alabama Showcase (Dothan) – dir. By James L. Thompson, Jr.

            Filmed in Dothan in June, 2010, this short feature answers the question “Does Love come in all colors?”

9: 20   The New Suited (G) Animated – Netherlands dir. by Niels Beekes.

            This is a pilot for a series about 'Suited'. Suited, along with Sarah and the E.R.I.C, are spies fighting the more modern criminals. Filled with Internet jokes and parodies.

9:37   Five Minutes Each (G) Animated – Serbia/Montenegro dir. by Vojin Vasovic.

            A metaphorical story about the struggle of artists to reach those five minutes of limelight.

10:10 The Drop  (G)  Short Feature – USA dir. by Marvelyne Engel. Can you imagine taking a young man, newly blinded, and having him dropped off in an unknown location - miles from his destination - with the responsibility of           finding his way back with out asking for assistance? This is the true life story portrayed in 'The Drop.'

2:28  Challenging Impossibility (G) Documentary – USA dir. by Sanjay Rawal. CHALLENGING IMPOSSIBILITY chronicles the weightlifting odyssey of the late spiritual teacher and peace advocate Sri Chinmoy.  The film          focuses on an exhibition he held on 13 November 2004 where he lifted a total of 200,408 pounds. 7:00 *My Anniston;  Edward Wood (G) Documentary dir. by  Stan Arthur – Alabama Showcase .  Edward Wood is a an 84-year-old African American man, a veteran of the US Navy and the American Civil Rights Movement,           and one of a few who personally witnessed the 1961 Freedom Riders Greyhound bus burning by an angry mob of Ku Klux Klan members in Anniston, Alabama. Wood tells his inspiring, spiritual and often humorous life story from his living room, as well as locations around Anniston that were the scenes of both violence and victory in the struggle for equal rights for African Americans in the deep Jim Crow South of the 50's and 60's. 8:15 Candy Shop (G) Short Feature dir. by Brandon McCormick – Judges Special Award.  On the surface, this is a fairytale reminiscent of Hansel & Gretel and suitable for the entire family.  The film is meant not only to raise       awareness of the child sex trafficking epidemic that has overrun the city of Atlanta, but to provoke meaningful action towards this issue taking place in our own backyard.   www.whitestonemotionpictures.com

9:00 The Man in the Maze  - Late Night Horror Feature (Strong R –Nudity/Language) – dir. by Miteshkumar Patel. -Alabama Showcase. 'The Man in the Maze' centers around four college students on a field trip to learn more      about the American Indian Trail of Tears. While traipsing through the woods, however, they stumble upon an Indian burial mound that marks the burial site of a Native American family that died on the trail. The mound was cursed by a distraught family member, and whoever disturbs it unleashes trouble and winds up lost in a maze, terrorized by an unknown force.  http://www.themaninthemaze.net
